PTR Pet Corral New Arrivals

There are several new arrivals in the PTR as far as pets go. I wrote about a few here as well.

Most of these are far from presentable at this point, but one sets itself apart. As I wrote before, I am very excited about more creative abilities for our pets and the devs are continuing to deliver on that front.

Zandalari vs Beasts of Fable

The four Zandalari pets might just be under-appreciated. I've only ever encountered them once in the queue, anyway. Maybe you saw them more. Maybe what you saw was me, though. Anyway...

They all have very similar combinations of abilities, but only one of those pets can use its real potential in normal conditions. Against the Beasts of Fable, though, these guys really shine for me. Why? Well, it takes 3 rounds to reach their maximum potential. If you use this strategy against a normal pet, that third round just feels wasted.

PTR Pet Corral

When the PTR came out I hopped in there lickety split because I wanted to check out the process for trading in family stones for marked stones. I couldn't find anything. Pet updates seem to come last to the PTR. However, before I exited I noticed that Pierre was back; he was gone in the 5.3 PTR, you see. When Pierre didn't come out in 5.2, I was disappointed, so I decided to come back later and see if he's changed. What I found has me brimming with excitement...

Qiraji Guardling

Many of us have been waiting for half of a year to finish the safari achievements, and the appearance of the Qiraji Guardling brings relief. Unless we reside on a pvp server. I do! Now, I didn't get ganked into oblivion or anything, but from what I saw I just got lucky. I caught my pet and it was looking like nobody was around, or so I thought. Then I flew around a bit to check out other breeds and witnessed what can only be described as a slaphappy bloodbath.

I saw a person in the middle of a pet battle getting jumped, so they lost their pet. As they fought their ganker, I was wishing I could help them out but I was in the wrong faction to do so. Instead, I cheered the pet battler on in the only way I could think of to support them. This act only served to draw attention to me, and I was attacked from below. Well, nobody ever claimed wowers were civil. Anyway...

Raiding With Leashes II

Just for fun, I will track my attempts herein. If you're curious, the reason for the imbalance in the number of attempts is because I don't do all of them with all of my characters for various reasons. Have you ever tried to solo a boss that silences constantly with a holy priest? Yeesh!

Finally done! The longest hold-out was the Tainted Waveling in both number of weeks and attempts. I actually got the Lil' Bad Wolf 4 times in the time it took me to get the Waveling. And I thought the wolf would be the hardest one. Go figure.

Gahz'rooki

I went and got Gahz'rooki again now that it's live and nothing has changed since the ptr, which I wrote about here. This post goes into more detail about how to obtain the pet and the ptr post goes into more detail about the pet itself.

To get Gahz'rooki...

Unborn Val'kyr

The Unborn Val'kyr is quite possibly the most sought-after pet of 5.3 and with good reason - it looks awesome. I was worried that it was going to be next to impossible to find one due to a combination of high demand and low supply, but my worries were dashed shortly after I set out to find one. In fact, in a brief period I found two because the first one killed itself trying to kill my ram. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

Camping in a Wishing Well

This is about days 3 and 4 of my tiny carp hunt. For these two days I attempted to catch a Tiny Blue Carp in the Vale. I did not catch a carp, personally, but I recruited a fishing buddy who did catch one right before my eyes, so it was fun to witness that. You can see his amazing luck below, and information about the Tiny Blue Carp below that.

Tiny Green Carp

Today I decided to go get myself a carp. This required fishing. If I'm being honest, which I always am, I bought my Magical Crawdad in the auction house and I would have done the same with the carps if I could. It's not that I hate fishing. I don't even dislike fishing. It's just that I have always struggled with inventory space and going for a super rare drop can be frustrating enough without constantly watching to make sure I have bag space for it so I don't catch it and lose it. But enough moaning. Without further ado, here is my carp-catching experience. If you just want the information about the pet, jump straight to the part where you see a big picture of it.

PTR - Gahz'rooki

Keep in mind everything in this post is at risk of being tweaked into something unrecognisable by comparison before the content goes live.

This pet is loads of fun and even on the ptr I went ahead and put hours of work into getting it. I can even just sit there with my Gahz'rooki out and watch its heads try to eat each other; they snap at each other every few seconds. It's big, too, so the animations can plainly be seen. Unfortunately, it doesn't react to clicking that I've noticed, but with the frequency of its animation, who cares?

How much effort was I willing to invest in a pet I don't get to keep? Well...

Beasts - Recommendations

While reviewing the Beasts of Fable, I outlined several abilities that can be used to easily defeat them, but I didn't go into how to obtain those pets. Here are some very potent abilities for fighting the Beasts of Fable, which pets have these abilities, how to get the pets, and to conclude the post, my winning team.

Peddlefeet

Peddlefeet is another reason for pet battlers to love February.

This pet is very easy to get. It is sold by a vendor in exchange for holiday currency - a mere 40 love tokens - during Love is in the Air. If you missed your shot, not to worry, this pet can be caged so you will probably be able to find it in the auction house.

Toxic Wasteling

Love is in the air and by now you probably have your Toxic Wasteling.

If not, well here's how you get one. First, it is only available as a drop during the Valentine's event called Love is in the Air. During that event, an instance appears in the drop-down menu of the dungeon finder tool for high-level characters. At the moment, this means level 89-90. The instance is called Crown Chemical Co. and it, like other holiday instances, is very brief. You need only complete one boss fight involving 3 targets. Once per reset, upon completion of the instance, you will receive a box containing 3 types of currency (gold, valour points, and love tokens). Additionally, the box has a chance to drop a few bonus items, one of which is the Toxic Wasteling pet.

Porcupette

At first I thought that the Porcupette was a guaranteed drop if you don't have it and then never drops again. Apparently, I was just very lucky when I got mine in my first bag, because I recently read a forum where many people commented that they'd never seen one. I-don't-know-how-many bags later, I can confirm that it does drop if you already have one, because today it happened to me.

So let's look at the Porcupette, shall we?

Spirits - Recommendations

An extremely condensed version of the posts about how to beat spirit tamers, this includes no tactics or ability suggestions, just which pets I suggest for which fights and where you can find them.
